“Without Notifying Anyone, No Rope, No Light, I Just Went In Feet First” – 16 Very Very Dangerous Things We Did As Kids That We Thought Were Harmless

Without Notifying Anyone, No Rope, No Light, I Just Went In Feet First

1. Exploring Abandoned Buildings

Remember those creepy, old, abandoned buildings in your neighborhood? We thought it was harmless fun to explore them, but looking back, they were full of hidden dangers like broken glass, unstable floors, and who knows what else.

2. Playing with Fireworks

Sneaking out at night to light fireworks was such a thrill. But without any adult supervision, we were one wrong move away from serious injuries or starting a fire.

3. Riding Bikes Without Helmets

We’d zoom down hills, wind in our hair, without a care in the world. Helmets? Who needed those? Turns out, we really did.

4. Climbing Trees

We’d climb as high as we could, thinking we were invincible. One slip could have led to broken bones or worse, but that never crossed our minds.

5. Playing with BB Guns

BB gun fights felt like epic battles. Goggles and safety rules were for wimps. Thankfully, most of us came out unscathed, but it was a risky game.

6. Swimming in Unsupervised Areas

We’d jump into lakes, rivers, or any body of water we could find. No lifeguards, no life jackets, and definitely no telling our parents where we were going.

7. Building and Using Makeshift Ramps

We’d make ramps out of anything we could find and launch ourselves into the air on bikes or skateboards. They were often flimsy and poorly constructed, making them a recipe for disaster.

8. Eating Wild Berries

If it looked like a berry, we’d eat it. We had no idea which ones were safe and which ones were poisonous. Luckily, most of us survived our taste tests.

9. Playing Chicken with Cars

Daring each other to dart across streets just in time to avoid oncoming traffic was a common game. It was incredibly dangerous and could have ended in tragedy.

10. Ignoring Stranger Danger

We were more trusting back then, striking up conversations with strangers or even accepting rides. It’s scary to think about now, knowing the risks we took.

11. Making Potions

Mixing household chemicals to create “potions” was a fun science experiment. We didn’t realize how hazardous these concoctions could be.

12. Sledding Down Steep Hills

Snow days meant finding the steepest hill and racing down on sleds, often heading straight for trees or busy streets. Helmets and safety checks were not part of the plan.

13. Walking on Thin Ice

Testing the ice on ponds or lakes to see if it would hold our weight was a winter pastime. We never considered how easily we could fall through.

14. Hitchhiking

Thumbs out, we’d hitch rides to get around. It seemed like an adventure, but it was extremely risky, not knowing who we were getting into cars with.

15. Playing with Sharp Objects

Throwing darts, knives, or even playing “chicken” with sharp objects was all in good fun. The potential for serious injury was high, but we didn’t think about that.

16. Wandering Off Alone

We’d wander far from home, exploring woods, fields, or unfamiliar neighborhoods, without telling anyone where we were going. It was dangerous, especially if we got lost or hurt.
