As a child, you live in a house that you call your home, but you have little control over how it’s decorated or what goes into each room. Your bedroom, however, is your sanctuary. It is the one place in the house that is truly yours, and how you want it decorated can speak volumes about who you are as a growing person.

It is always so much fun when parents get in on the fun of decorating a child’s room. From cool bedspreads to intricate wall decor, the possibilities are endless. Megan, from the blog Brassy Apple, wanted to add some “glamor” and “sparkle” to her daughter’s bedroom. She came up with a simple and cost-effective DIY project that resulted in a stunning faux chandelier for her daughter.

What you’ll need:

  • 10″ wire hanging baskets (4)
  • Wire (19 gauge)
  • Needle nose pliers, or wire cutters
  • Hot glue gun
  • Spray paint
  • Embellishments – crystals, beaded necklaces, colored beads, etc.

First, Megan placed two of the wire baskets side by side and connected them together in the middle with some wire.

She also made sure that the “loops” were spaced out and to the side, like so:

Then, she took a third basket and pulled the hook and chains up through the large hole in the center …

… and set it off to the side.

She then took that basket and placed it on top of the first two baskets, right in the middle of them.

Next, she wrapped wire around the two points where the baskets touched on each side.

After the four points were securely joined together, she flipped the entire thing upside down.

Then, she placed the fourth basket in the center of the two baskets that were facing up. Again, she connected the four points that were touching with some wire.

Here is a close-up of how she attached the points together with wire.

Now, the foundation is done. Flipping it back over, you can see what the chandelier will look like:

Next came the paint. Because it was for her daughter, Megan spray-painted the chandelier with Rust-Oleum Ultra Cover in “berry pink.”

What a beautiful color! It really pops against the color of the walls.

Keeping the chandelier suspended, she started hanging the chain hooks onto the inner rings on each side and secured them with hot glue.

“Now the chains that hang have some curves, shape, and loop to them,” she said.

Time for embellishments. “Now the fun really begins!” she wrote in her post. “There are so many hoops, ledges, chains, and other surfaces to attach beads and jewels on your new chandelier – so have fun!”

For Megan’s project, she decided to remove the center bottom hanging hook …

… and added a large crystal and jump ring in its place.

She also hung teardrop crystals on the bottom of each of the loops, like so:

Don’t forget to embellish the center rings!

Then, she took some beaded necklaces and draped them across the chandelier, using hot glue to secure them to place.

“I also glued some beading to the frame on the sides and draped it into the middle,” she added.

There really is no “wrong” approach to this. There are endless options when it comes to embellishments, and however you add them to your chandelier is entirely up to you. You can even get your child to help with the design!

“Glamor, bling, sparkle … those are a few words that come to mind when I look at this chandelier,” she wrote. “And that is exactly the look I was going for.”

What little girl wouldn’t want this gorgeous chandelier hanging in her bedroom?
