Another day, another cryptocurrency – although this time, there’s a particularly interesting deal on the cards.

Vice Industry Token (VIT) will effectively pay you for looking at online porn. Sound too good to be true? Well, there’s a catch, as you no doubt anticipated. The payoff is that you will be handing over more and more of your precious data. On top of that, you will be paid in a digital coin that you can only spend on more porn. Damn, the Internet is a weird place.

Like most of those cryptocurrencies you have been hearing about recently, most notably Bitcoin, VIT uses a blockchain. Essentially, this is a way to ensure all transactions are verifiable and permanent by using a public ledger of transactions that is secured using cryptography.

The idea of fusing porn with digital currency is nothing new. With the days of pay-for-view porn quickly dying and ad-blockers causing hassle for current models of monetizing free adult video, VIT think that their cryptocurrency could help stimulate the anxious industry of pornography. In their words: “Free was good, it’s just not good enough anymore.”

In a wider sense, you are able to watch free porn (or use free social networks and access free apps) because the platform is able to gather data about you and sell it to third parties, usually for the purposes of advertising. As VIT explain in their Whitepaper Report on the idea, “the VIT ledger records granular user behavior – such as social activity, likes, upvotes, comments, and content preferences as valuable transaction metadata.” Translated from geek speak, this basically means that users earn money from their clicks and browsing by passing over even more detailed data about their preferences and tastes. This allows advertisers to make more targeted and detailed advertising.

VIT are currently working with Penthouse, Exxxtasy, RedHot TV, and a handful of their adult-content producers where their digital tokens can be traded for exclusive premium content. At the current time, it’s not possible to say whether you will be able to trade VIT for other cryptocurrencies or traditional government-issued cash. Nevertheless, VIT have a bold vision for the future.

“My plan is to attach my blockchain to any existing adult website and tokenize certain aspects of the business that they’re operating,” Stuart Duncan, CEO and adult industry veteran, recently told The Daily Beast. “Then when someone comes in and starts using a video, commenting on it, sharing it, they turn on something I call ‘proof of brain’ and what they’re really doing is engaging with our programming. That’s how they get paid.”
