LONDON “The cookie is crumbling.”
The words tweeted by former Great British Bake Off winner Frances Quinn at the news that presenters Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins are leaving the show they won’t be following it when it moves from the BBC to Channel 4 were echoed across social media on Tuesday evening.
In response to the news, Mel and Sue put out the following statement:

In the hours since, former GBBO winners and contestants have taken to Twitter to share their tributes to the pair.
I’m really hoping this isn’t true For me Mel & Sue are as big a part of GBBO as Mary & Paul X https://t.co/5wzbrTBFjn

Very sad to hear that #GBBO lose Mel G. & @sueperkins in move to C4. Gutted. Will sorely miss that pair holding the whole shebang together

Without Mel and Sue it just isn’t Bake Off. @Channel4 has just bought a tent. #GBBO

Only one thing to do when I’m this sad: on your marks, get set, bake We’ll miss you @sueperkins (& Mel too) #GBBO pic.twitter.com/sKoE0uXyJ8

Good for you @sueperkins and Mel. Such a shame that future bakers won’t have the pleasure of your company. I’m grateful I did #gbbo

Mel & Sue jump ship. Very sad news. They’re wonderful girls who made the show what it is. Now, I’m not feeling so hopeful…
